Rurrenabaque Amazon Tours – Pampas & Madidi Jungle

The Amazon has a way of reminding you how alive the world really is.

Welcome to Indigena Tours, your locally rooted gateway to Rurrenabaque and the Bolivian Amazon. For more than a decade, our Indigenous-led local team has guided travelers through two remarkable and completely different ecosystems: the wildlife-rich wetlands of the Pampas del Yacuma and the remote rainforest of Madidi National Park, the most biodiverse national park on the planet.

Our English-speaking Indigenous guides come from San José de Uchupiamonas and nearby communities. They bring a lifetime of connection to these landscapes, along with the patience and knowledge to help you notice what others might pass by: a distant call in the canopy, fresh tracks beside a trail or the subtle movement of wildlife along the riverbank.

We travel in small groups and follow one simple principle: wildlife observed, never fed. We do not bait or feed animals to manufacture encounters. Nature sets the pace, making every sighting more respectful, more meaningful and genuinely wild.

In the Pampas, you will explore the open wetlands of the Yacuma River, where pink river dolphins, caimans, capybaras, monkeys and tropical birds are often easier to observe. After each day on the river, return to our comfortable glamping cabins with 24-hour solar electricity and Starlink Wi-Fi — an ideal balance of nature and comfort for couples, families and first-time Amazon travelers.

For a deeper adventure, our Madidi National Park tour takes you into dense, remote rainforest. You will stay at Corazón del Madidi, a simple lodge owned and operated by an Indigenous family from San José de Uchupiamonas, with the support of Indigena Tours. The lodge is basic and truly off the grid, offering authentic jungle immersion rather than resort-style comfort.

On the journey into Madidi, you will also stop at San Miguel del Bala, a separate Tacana Indigenous community, for a warm introduction to the living cultures and traditions of the region.

Whether you choose a Pampas tour, a jungle expedition or a journey combining both, you will experience the Amazon through local knowledge, responsible wildlife encounters and genuine human connection.

Rated 4.9★ on Google by 125 travelers, Indigena Tours offers authentic Rurrenabaque Amazon tours at a fair price — shaped by over a decade of experience and led by people who call this region home.

Our family of 5, including 3 children, had a very positive experience with Indigena Tours in our Pampas tour. Grateful for Armando's helpfulness and candid attitude, the guide (Alex)'s attention level and knowledge, the small and private lodge, their ability to accommodate gluten-free restrictions for a Celiac child, etc. Recommended!

We had a wonderful trip with Rigo, who spoke great English and guided our boat expertly around the pampas to see all the incredible wildlife. Our private cabin was as comfortable as you can be in such a remote area and the food was pretty good. Since there are a maximum of six guests possible at the lodge at any time, there’s a high chance you’ll have your tour guide all to yourselves (like we did). Highly recommend!

Excellent tour! Everything was included from start to finish. Our guide Herman was very informative on all the animals. Accommodation was very good and the staff were all very helpful. Best tour if you’re looking for a more private experience. Our flights out of Rurennabaque got cancelled and the tour even managed to give us a refund for this! Excellent tour and kind hearted people!

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish! The booking process was super smooth, Armando was super responsive. The trip itself was also amazing. You can really tell that the company takes pride in their work. We did the Pampas 3 day 2 night tour. The lodging was clean and comfortable. The food was fantastic too and the activities throughout the day were super fun. We were only 4 people on our boat which made the whole experience feel even more private and personal. Our guide Herman was extremely patient and knowledgeable. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!

Amazing 5-day Madidi Jungle & Pampas experience! We had an amazing 5-day experience combining the Madidi Jungle and the Pampas, and we can highly recommend this tour. Everything was very well organized from beginning to end. We were picked up directly from the airport in Rurrenabaque and also brought back there after the tour, so we didn’t have to worry about anything. The lodges in both areas were comfortable and well equipped, and even small but important details were taken care of – for example, the mosquito nets were in very good condition without any holes. A huge part of what made this experience so special was our guide, Rigoberto. From the first day, he always looked after us and made sure we were comfortable and enjoying the experience. He has an incredible amount of knowledge about the jungle, wildlife, plants and the whole region and was able to answer every question we had. What impressed us most was how passionate he is about his work. He was always happy, positive and motivated, even after long days. You can really tell that he lives for this job. He also has an incredible eye for spotting wildlife – often seeing animals long before we would ever have noticed them ourselves. We saw a lot of wildlife, learned so much about the Amazon and had many unforgettable moments. One of our personal highlights was fishing – Rigoberto helped us so well that both my girlfriend and I managed to catch a fish! The combination of the jungle and the Pampas was perfect because the two areas offer completely different experiences. We really felt that we got to see different sides of the Bolivian Amazon. Overall, everything from the organization and accommodation to the activities and guiding was excellent. We felt safe and well looked after throughout the entire five days. An unforgettable Amazon experience and definitely one of the highlights of our trip through South America. Highly recommended!

Molt recomanable.

FAQ:

Yes, in Rurrenabaque, there are financial services available. You can find Banco Unión (with an ATM) and Banco Fie (with an ATM) in the area. Additionally, you will find PRODEM, Diaconía, and Crecer as established financial institutions in the area.

Yes, Rurrenabaque has a second-level hospital and several health centers. Just a few minutes away, near the Municipality, you will find the second-level hospital of San Buenaventura, which has an oxygen generator that supplies the entire area.

Yes — all our rooms have private bathrooms. Our lodges do not have hot water: temperatures in the area usually stay above 30°C and energy supply is limited, so hot water isn’t practical. Most guests find that a cool, refreshing shower is actually a welcome relief in the Amazon heat.

We recommend the tours for children aged 9 and older. Our trips involve boat travel, walking on natural terrain and a warm, humid climate, so they’re best suited to travelers in reasonable physical condition. Older travelers are very welcome and often join us — the Pampas tour, with its comfortable Glamping cabins, is generally easier and more accessible, while the jungle tour is more remote and physically demanding. If you’re unsure whether tour suits your group, just ask us — we’ll gladly advise you.

In our Glamping cabins in the Pampas, electricity runs 24 hours day on solar power, and we now have Starlink Wi-Fi — so you can stay connected if you wish, or disconnect and enjoy nature. At our jungle lodge, Corazón del Madidi, power is more limited: generator provides electricity around midday (about one hour) and in the evening (19:00–21:00) to recharge your devices, and there is no Wi-Fi. Deep in Madidi, that’s part of the experience — rare chance to be truly off the grid.

Only bottled water is included during the service. You can purchase additional beverages at our lodge (please consult with your guide).

  1. Half-liter bottle of water for the first day
  2. Light-colored long pants (preferably)
  3. Light-colored long-sleeved shirt (preferably)
  4. Hat
  5. Sneakers or comfortable shoes, plus sandals for the lodge
  6. Rain poncho (a cheap one is fine — only if needed)
  7. Swimsuit (optional)
  8. Sunglasses (optional)
  9. Camera / phone with camera
  10. Insect repellent (important — a spray you can apply over your clothes works best)
  11. Sunscreen
  12. Personal hygiene items
  13. Battery-powered flashlight (we can lend you one if you don’t have your own)
  14. Personal documents
  15. Small padlock (optional, to secure your belongings)
  16. Some cash for soft drinks or snacks, plus the park entrance fees (paid on site, not included)
